About
The Journal of West African History's 10th anniversary conference will gather leading scholars and students to explore West Africa’s role in world affairs, its cultural ties with the Diaspora, and the effects of globalization and environmental change. The conference will trace ancient and modern connections, from forced migrations across the Atlantic, Sahara, and Indian Ocean to today’s globalized context. By focusing on West Africa, the conference will deepen understanding of how the region's peoples are central to pressing global issues such as health, security, and poverty.
Invited scholars will address critical topics including climate change, conflict, poverty, and global migration, through four thematic panels:
- Archives, Sources, and Methods for West African History
- West Africa & the World: Diaspora, Pan-Africanism, and Global Connections
- Gender in West African History: Past Developments and Future Directions
- Environment in the History of West Africa
The conference is free and open to the public.
